Shafali Verma likely to feature in Big Bash 2021

It’s always a dream moment for any cricketer to play on a national level. In a country like India, few cricketers can grab the opportunity following the massive amount of competition. But then there is Shafali Verma, who has not only fulfilled her dream but that too at a very young age. According to the reports, Shafali Verma is likely to feature in the Big Bash League, which will be played later this year.

The 17-year-old Indian cricketer Shafali Verma will also be a part of the Hundred tournament. She will be the 5th woman to participate after Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Deepti Sharma. The format features a 100-ball cricket tournament which will include eight men’s and women’s teams.

A BCCI source quoted to PTI that “Shafali was approached by Birmingham franchise and the deal is about to be closed. She will be replacing New Zealand’s Sophie Devine in the team”. The source, later on, went on to add that, “She is also in talks with the Sydney franchise to play in the women’s Big Bash.”

The Hundred tournament was set to be played last year. But the rise in pandemic led to the tournament being postponed to 2021.

Now the league is scheduled to kickstart from 21st July 2021. The first match will be played between the Oval Invincibles and Manchester Originals in London.

Shafali Verma has been a star player for India

Born in the year 2004, Shafali has already smashed 617 runs in the T20 format at a blistering strike rate of 148.31. She emerged out as the youngest Indian Women’s Cricketer to play T20 Internationals in the year 2019. At that time, she was just 15-year-old. She is currently ranked as the no one batter in the ICC Women’s T20 rankings. This might be the very first overseas competition for her as a cricketer.
