“Reads The Game Well Behind Stumps”, Yuvraj Backs Pant To Become India’s Test Captain

Virat Kohli has quit Test captaincy after the defeat to South Africa. He was India’s best Test skipper, winning 40 games from 68 encounters. It will be a tough task for the BCCI to replace him. Amongst the candidates, one surprising name is that of Rishabh Pant. In this article, we take a look at the reason why Yuvraj Singh backed Rishabh Pant to become India’s Test captain.

Virat Kohli is no longer India’s Test captain

When Virat took over the reins from MS Dhoni, India was struggling in the five-day format. It was also languishing in the bottom half of the ICC charts. However, Virat changed the direction in which India’s Test cricket was heading.

Under him, at home, India was almost unbeatable. In away games, especially in the SENA Nations, Virat Kohli started helping India win encounters, which was not possible in the past. A dominant pace attack, too, developed under Virat’s leadership.

With him giving up his role, the future looks uncertain for the Test Team. While there are other issues in the XI, the management will now have to address the leadership vacancy first.

Rishabh Pant backed to take over from Virat Kohli

Amongst the popular candidates to replace Virat Kohli include Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul. There are a few who believe that even R Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah are capable of the task. However, some are of the opinion that Rishabh Pant will also be an excellent pick.

Legendary former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, while speaking to India Today, mentioned that Pant is the best option to replace Virat. Now, former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh also shared similar views. Here is what he said:

Pant is a youngster and is currently the first-choice wicket-keeper across all formats. The southpaw is also in good form with the bat. Considering the future of the team, it would not be a surprise if BCCI makes this decision.
