“RCB can win the IPL this year,” Former England captain Michael Vaughan makes bold prediction as RCB thumps SRH

RCB beat SRH by a huge margin of more than 60 runs in a vital game last afternoon

The former England captain Michael Vaughan reckons that the current squad of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) can go “all the way” and finally win their first-ever IPL title. RCB has never won an IPL title in the 15-year history of the tournament despite having a lot of big names at their disposal at different times.

They have reached playoffs before and they have even reached the final a couple of times in the past, but they have never quite got their hands on the trophy despite being one of the top 3 franchises in the league in terms of the fanbase.

However, this time around, the team seems to have got good balance in terms of batting depth and also, in terms of variety in bowling. The bowlers that RCB have got, even the seamers, all three of them are of different types. While Mohammed Siraj relies on movement, Josh Hazlewood bowls a hard length and Harshal Patel is a change-up variation bowler. And, then they have got the wrist spin of Hasaranga.

Michael Vaughan sees a lot of factors in favor of RCB this year

RCB is also playing under the leadership of a new captain Faf du Plessis this season and although he has come from a franchise that is the arch-rival of RCB, the former South African captain has still delivered the goods for RCB, both with the bat and in terms of his leadership.

Because of all these factors, Michael Vaughan is of the view that this might be the year for RCB where they lift the IPL title. However, it has happened quite a few times in the past where RCB has looked good through the league phase and then hasn’t gone all the way.

So, whether the prediction of Michael Vaughan, which he has made on the basis of current form, comes true or not, remains to be seen.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
