The former coach of the Indian cricket team, Ravi Shastri, is not quite convinced with the way the Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma is using Jasprit Bumrah in the ongoing season of the IPL.
Mumbai Indians have played three games in IPL 2022 and have lost all three, despite being in strong positions in a couple of games at one stage and because of three consecutive defeats, they are now sitting at no. 9 in the points table just above Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The squad that Mumbai Indians have assembled this season is a bit weaker in comparison to the squads that they have had in the past and the reason behind that is the purchase of Jofra Archer.
Mumbai spent a substantial amount of money on the purchase of Archer in the mega auction, knowing fully well that the England fast bowler would not be available this season.
In the ongoing IPL season, Mumbai Indians are left with a bowling attack of Jasprit Bumrah, Tymal Mills, Basil Thampi and Murugan Ashwin, which is not a bad attack, but is nowhere near as good an attack as they have had in the past. Ravi Shastri reckons that because of the fact Rohit doesn’t have a well rounded attack this season, he is not able to use Bumrah efficiently.

According to Ravi Shastri, who was analyzing Mumbai Vs KKR game on Star Sports, when a captain doesn’t have too many penetrative bowlers and he has just one world class option, he tends to keep that bowler for key moments of the game, but then the game can be won by the opposition in the other phases where the other bowlers might not give the captain the control that he needs.
Ravi Shastri is basically of the view that Rohit Sharma needs to use Jasprit Bumrah slightly more aggressively than he has used him so far and try and make early impacts in the game with his bowling, rather than waiting till the end.
