“Rahul Dravid should be India’s coach only in Tests but not in T20Is,” Danish Kaneria feels Indian head coach failed to handle pressure in T20 World Cup 2022

Former Pakistani cricketer Danish Kaneria has slammed Indian head coach Rahul Dravid for the team’s loss in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022 against England. He feels that the former Indian head coach failed to handle the pressure and he should coach the team only in Tests and not T20Is.

Following India’s 10-wicket loss in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022 against England, they have come under a lot of scrutiny. Indian players failed to step up on the big occasion and couldn’t handle the pressure, which led to a poor outing against England in the semi-final of the 2022 T20 World Cup.

Batters struggled to get going and perished in quick succession as apart from Virat Kohli (50) and Hardik Pandya (63) every other batter fail as India could manage only 168 runs.

It was expected that India would give a tough fight but they had no answers to the onslaught by English openers. Alex Hales and Jos Buttler took Indian bowlers to the cleaners and smashed them all over the park for their unbeaten 170 runs stand and made sure that they win the game by 10 wickets.

Following India’s loss head coach Rahul Dravid has come under scrutiny as many fans and pundits have raised calls to sack him as the coach. Ever since he took the leadership role, India has failed to win big games. They lost a series in South Africa, a Test against England, Asia Cup 2022 and now T20 World Cup 2022.

The BCCI will hold a meeting with Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid to discuss the roadmap of T20is. (Reported by Indian Express).

Former Pakistani cricketer Danish Kaneria also criticised head coach Rahul Dravid and lashed out at him for not utilising Rishabh Pant. Speaking in a video posted on his YouTube channel, he said:

“If you picked Rishabh Pant, you should’ve utilised him. He should’ve been sent out to bat higher up in the batting order after KL Rahul got out. He came out to bat in the 19th over. What can he do then? 

“India would have to change the mindset. Rahul Dravid will have to change his mentality. As a cricketer, Rahul Dravid was excellent in the Test format. He should be India’s coach only in Tests but not in T20Is,” 

“He doesn’t know how to handle pressure.” Danish Kaneria on Rahul Dravid 

Kaneria further went on to admit they although Rahul Dravid was a calm player but doesn’t know how to handle pressure. He said:

“His intent is not there as there’s no aggression. He doesn’t know how to handle pressure. He was a ‘calm and cool cricketer’ who can stay on the crease for the whole day. But, this is T20 cricket. Here, you have to handle pressure. But, you can’t handle pressure in T20s,”
