“PSL was a dark time for me, that’s why I pulled out from IPL,” Jason Roy reveals the reason for his IPL 2022 withdrawal

Jason Roy was bought by Gujarat Titans in the mega auction ahead of IPL 2022

Jason Roy has revealed that when he was playing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) earlier this year, he found himself in a “dark place” and it was because of the kind of experience he had in the PSL that he realized that he was not enjoying the game anymore even though he had no issues with his form.

Jason Roy has not been a regular in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the last few years, but in this year’s mega auction, he was bought by Gujarat Titans at his base price of 2 crore INR. However, surprisingly Roy let the opportunity go as he decided to take his name out of the IPL and the Titans then had to sign the Afghan wicketkeeper Rahmanullah Gurbaz as his replacement.

I just wanted to live a normal life for a while: Jason Roy

According to Roy, the reason he did that was that he just wanted to spend some time at home and live a normal life. He had had enough of living in the bio bubbles and restricted environments where he couldn’t move freely. So, rather than going to the IPL where a bio bubble was in place again, spending time at home recharged him and he is now starting to feel motivated to play the game again.

Roy was the player of the match for England in yesterday’s One Day International (ODI) against the Netherlands as he scored a brisk half-century at the top of the order. It was also his 100th ODI match for England and he said in the post-match presentation that regardless of his performance in the game, the fact that it was his 100th appearance for England in the 50-over format, it was always going to be a special game for him.

Jason Roy insisted that England cricket is in a healthy state at the moment and he is grateful for the fact that he has got the opportunity to play 100 ODIs for such a high-quality England ODI team.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
