Virender Sehwag Questions Team India’s Selection For The T20 World Cup

Former Indian cricket team opener Virender Sehwag has questioned the Indian squad selected for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021. According to the first-ever T20 international captain of the Indian cricket team, Yuzvendra Chahal deserved to be a part of the Indian squad for the mega event scheduled to happen in the United Arab Emirates and Oman.

Many fans were shocked when the BCCI decided against including Chahal in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 squad. The right-arm leg-spinner has played a lot of T20 cricket at the international level. He has been very successful as well. Since the experience is sought after in a tournament like the ICC T20 World Cup, Chahal was expected to feature in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 squad of the Indian cricket team.

Chahal was bowling well in the past also. I can’t understand why he was omitted: Virender Sehwag

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Virender Sehwag revealed that he could not understand the reason why Yuzvendra Chahal failed to make the cut to the Indian squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 squad. Here’s what Sehwag had to say:

“Chahal was bowling well in the past also. I can’t understand why he was omitted from the T20 World Cup squad. The selectors should provide an explanation. It’s not like Rahul Chahar bowled extraordinarily in Sri Lanka. The way Chahal is bowling, he will be an asset for any side in T20 cricket.”

Why was Yuzvendra Chahal not selected for the ICC T20 World Cup squad of the Indian cricket team?

Many fans of the Indian cricket team would know that leg-spinner Rahul Chahar was preferred over Yuzvendra Chahal for the ICC T20 World Cup tournament. The reason behind it was that the selectors felt a leg-spinner like Chahar, who bowls quicker, can be more effective in the conditions of the Middle East.

It is pertinent to note that the second phase of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League is currently underway in the United Arab Emirates. Yuzvendra Chahal vs. Rahul Chahar happened recently, where Chahal emerged as the winner, scalping three wickets against the Mumbai Indians team.
