Twitter reacts with joy as India registers their biggest test match victory of all time

India beat New Zealand by a humongous margin of 372 runs at the Wankhede stadium

India needed 5 more wickets to wrap up a one-side test match against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday morning, and it didn’t take them even an hour to get the job done as New Zealand lost their lower-middle order in a jiffy to give India their biggest test match victory of all time, in terms of margin of runs.

The Indian spinners weren’t getting quite as much bite last evening as they had got in the first innings, but today in the first session, with a bit more moisture around and a bit of dampness in the wicket, the ball turned square at a fair bit of speed and it was virtually impossible for the Kiwis to survive.

Henry Nicholls and the young left-hander Rachin Ravindra carried the fight on for a short duration, but once Rachin was dismissed by Jayant Yadav, caught at a gully, it opened the floodgates as the Kiwi tail-enders perished one after the other.

Although Jayant Yadav, the off-spinner who was making a comeback to the Indian test team after a long time, missed his fifer, he has made a strong claim now as India’s second choice off-spinner and the backup to Ravichandran Ashwin.

Ashwin also finished with a 4-wicket haul in the second innings and a total of 8 wickets in the game, which was a fair return for his extraordinary bowling effort throughout the game, where hardly any New Zealand batsman looked comfortable against him at any stage.

This was the 7th time that India won a test match by a margin of more than 300 runs

It was the 7th time in India’s test match history that they won a test match by a margin of more than 300 runs. They had done it for the first time back in 2008 against Australia when MS Dhoni was captaining the team in Anil Kumble’s absence. The remaining six victories have come since 2015, all under the captaincy of the current Indian captain Virat Kohli.

This victory against New Zealand has given India 12 more points in the World Test Championship (WTC) and they have now solidified their position further in the points table, in terms of the percentage of points. The percentage of points secured by the teams out of the total number of points available is what will decide the eventual top 2 standings at the end of the ongoing WTC cycle.

The Indian fans were ecstatic with today’s victory against New Zealand, and they reacted with immense joy on Twitter as Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed the last New Zealand batsman to complete India’s biggest Test win ever –

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
