Twitter Reacts As Virat Kohli Steps Down From T20I Captaincy After WT20

Virat Kohli drops a bomb just ahead of the World Cup

Social media went abuzz on Monday when there were reports of Kohli stepping down from Indian T20 captaincy and Rohit Sharma taking over. After a couple of hours of the rumour, BCCI managed to silence the hearsays without much ado.

Fast forward the timeline by four days and Kohli himself penned a beautiful letter to announce his renouncement from the captaincy in the shortest format of the game. There were wild rumours of Kohli willing to focus on his batting and that is why he wanted to relinquish white-ball captaincy. However, for the time being, he chose to let go of the T20 captaincy as Rohit Sharma will be taking care of affairs after the World Cup in Dubai.

Virat Kohli’s letter to everyone thanking them for their immense support

In his letter, he thanked his team members, his support staff, Ravi Shastri and Rohit Sharma for supporting him all along. However, he claimed that renouncing the T20 captaincy in the shortest format of the game will open up space for his batting and he will continue being the skipper of ODI and Test cricket.

Kohli’s records as a captain have been extremely illustrious as in ODI’s he has managed to lead India to 65 victories from the 95 games that he has been a part of. He has lost 27 and tied 1 while the other two have been washed away. In Test cricket, he has managed to captain the Indian cricket team on 65 occasions out of which he has ushered the team to 38 victories, losing 16 in the process.

Kohli and Rohit’s comparison as a captain in the shortest format of the game

His records in T20 cricket have been equally bedazzling as he has captained India in 45 T20I’s, winning 27 of them while losing 14. Rohit Sharma, on the contrary, has played 19 T20I’s as a captain winning 15 out of them.

It will be massive boots for the Indian hitman to fulfill even though his preceding records say that he is already up for the task. Twitter was overwhelmed with mixed reactions as Kohli made such an important call just ahead of the T20 World Cup.
