“Here comes the strength of prime Kahn, Yashin, Casillas and Buffon”, Twitter lights up as Guillermo Ochoa denies Robert Lewandowski

Like the way attack is an integral part of a football match, similarly defence and goalkeeping is an equally important part of the equation. As we talk about goal-keeping, an eternal goal-keeping legend once again came out in blazing colours, putting an end to a spot-kick from one of the most sublime goal-scorers in the world at the moment, Robert Lewandowski. However, the man who emerged as the hero again was none other than Mexican goal-keeper, Guillermo Ochoa.

The first half didn’t summon the Mexican custodian into action as it was more of a scrappy display from both the sides with occasional bursts of brilliance from both sides. However, the complexion changed completely in the second half as Poland started pressing their feet on the accelerator.

It was the 55th minute when the game turned on its head with Poland’s repeated incursions paying off handsome dividends as Lewandowski was clipped inside the box by Hector Moreno after a brief scuffle and despite the referee initially turning down the penalty appeal, he was forced to overturn his decision after VAR intervention.

Here is what Twitter had to say about Guillermo Ochoa

Only when Lewa stepped up for the spot-kick, he faced friction from Ochoa who pranced a bit before going for the save and before the Polish striker could have done anything to regain control of the ball, Guillermo Ochoa had his name written again in the history books, thwarting Lewa from flipping in the first of the night.

Ochoa became the first Mexican goal-keeper since 1966 to save a World Cup penalty exclusive of the shootouts. However, that was the only possible attempt on goal that came out of the blue, a bit fortuitous if a football fan may dare to say, post which the Poles curled back into their shell. Twitter absolutely loved the legendary save from Ochoa as Mexico finished with shared spoils against Poland.
