Eoin Morgan registered his 4th duck in IPL 2021 yesterday and became the first captain in the history of the IPL to score 4 ducks in a single IPL season.
Eoin Morgan has been struggling with form throughout this IPL season and last night in qualifier 2 again, he faltered as he scored a 3-ball duck at a stage where KKR seemed to be pretty comfortable in a chase of 136 runs.
After Morgan’s wicket, the pressure shifted back on KKR and they actually pushed themselves in a situation where it looked like they might lose the game they seemed to be comfortably winning just 15-20 minutes ago.
However, Rahul Tripathi hit a six on the penultimate ball of the final over of the game and dragged KKR over the line and into the final.
Eoin Morgan’s form is a matter of concern for KKR
While KKR has had a remarkable turnaround under Morgan’s captaincy in the second leg of the IPL, his form has been a matter of concern.
In the last game against RCB in the eliminator, the England left hander had seen through a run a ball chase in the last couple of overs, scoring 5 off 7 balls. KKR needed only that from their skipper in qualifier 2 as well.
But, it wasn’t to be as Eoin Morgan played one onto his stumps off the bowling of Anrich Nortje. It was not an easy pitch against the fast bowlers particularly when they were hitting the hard lengths and Nortje hit the hard lengths consistently in the 19th over of the KKR innings.
KKR will now face CSK in the final of IPL 2021 on Friday in Dubai and KKR fans would hope that Morgan regains his form in the big final.
This is the third time KKR has made the final of IPL. The last two times they qualified to the final of IPL in 2012 and 2014 respectively, they ended up winning the title. They would want to make it three victories out of three finals on Friday as they face the three time champions CSK.
