Gerhard Erasmus, the captain of the Namibia national cricket team, has shared one of his childhood pictures where he is playing backyard cricket as a little kid, while the recently retired South African legend AB De Villiers is behind the stumps.
It must be a memorable picture for Erasmus which someone else clicked for him when he was a kid and now many years down the line, he can cherish it being in the same frame with one of the talismanic cricketers of modern times.
After AB de Villiers announced his retirement yesterday, Erasmus shared the picture on Twitter with the caption “dankie AB” which is an Afrikaans term translating to “thanks AB” in English.
Gerhard Erasmus has been one of the most exciting players to have come out of the associate countries in recent times. The right-handed middle-order batsman played a key role in Namibia’s qualification to the super 12 round of the recent T20 World Cup
“Proud of how far you have come,” AB de Villiers told Gerhard Erasmus
AB de Villiers himself responded to Erasmus’s tweet saying that he totally remembers when the picture was clicked and although it was a long time ago, it doesn’t seem like a long time at all. It seems as if the picture was clicked yesterday.

Gerhard Erasmus is one of the youngest captains going around in international cricket at the moment. He comes from the family of a cricket administrator, as his dad worked as the chairman of cricket Namibia as well as a director in the ICC.
Erasmus himself is a law graduate now pursuing a career in professional cricket. Although Namibia, after qualifying to the super 12 round couldn’t do much against the big teams in T20 World Cup 2021, they really showed they had a group that can do special things in the future under the captaincy of Erasmus.
