Deep Dasgupta suggests 3 Indian players who should be added to Test squad in England

Former Indian cricketer Deep Dasgupta has suggested that Team India could consider picking three players from the Sri Lankan tour team for the Test series in the United Kingdom. In his opinion, pace bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Deepak Chahar who can swing the ball can achieve success in the England Test series. Also, Deep Dasgupta felt adding Prithvi Shaw to the squad will not be a bad choice.

Speaking on his YouTube channel ‘Deep Point’, Deep Dasgupta discussed the players who could be drafted into the Indian Test squad as replacements for Avesh Khan, Shubman Gill and Washington Sundar. Many fans would know that as per reports, the above-mentioned three players will not be able to play the Test series against England because of injury problems. Giving his opinion on this matter, Deep said

“With Avesh Khan ruled out even though he was a net bowler, it is a good opportunity to send Deepak Chahar or even Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Both are swing bowlers and are in good form and will be useful in English conditions.”

Deep Dasgupta seems to have made a valid point here because India missed the services of Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the WTC Final. Also, Deepak Chahar has proven himself as a batting option in the lower middle order now.

Prithvi Shaw can be a good choice: Deep Dasgupta

Next, Deep Dasgupta gave his views on Shubman Gill’s injury. He said that even though Team India had the likes of Mayank Agarwal, Rohit Sharma and Abhimanyu Easwaran available for the series, adding Prithvi Shaw would not be a bad decision. Shaw has performed exceptionally well of late in white-ball cricket. He looked in great touch for Mumbai in domestic cricket. Then, he performed well in IPL 2021. Recently, Shaw won Man of the Match award against Sri Lanka.

“I think the kind of form Prithvi Shaw is in, he can be a good choice. Obviously there is (Abhimanyu) Easwaran, there is Mayank Agarwal and Rohit Sharma, but sending Prithvi will not be a bad idea,” Deep Dasgupta added.
