CSK coach Stephen Fleming has broken his silence after a 27-ball 18-run knock from the Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni in last night’s match against the Delhi Capitals. The right-handed batter failed to hit a single boundary in his innings. Former Indian batter Virender Sehwag pointed out on his Facebook Watch show Virugiri Dot Com that this was the first time in 12 years in the league’s history that Dhoni played 25 balls in an inning and returned to the dressing room without hitting a single four or six.
Although Dhoni could not find any boundaries, he still had a 70-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Ambati Rayudu. The two batter took the Chennai Super Kings team’s score from 62/4 to 132/5. However, their efforts went in vain as the Delhi Capitals won the match by three wickets in the end. Now, the chances of Delhi Capitals finishing above the Chennai Super Kings in the points’ table of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League are higher.
What CSK coach Fleming had to say about MS Dhoni’s performance
In a virtual post-match press conference, CSK coach Stephen Fleming commented on the batting performance of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Here’s what Fleming said about Dhoni’s inability to hit a four or a six:
“Dhoni was not the only one, it was a difficult day for stroke play. 137 was almost enough, it was a tough wicket to score big on in terms of big shots, both teams struggled with it towards the end of the innings. Sometimes, you set your sights too high, probably we were just 10-15 runs short of having a match-winning score.”
Chennai Super Kings team will play their last league match against the Punjab Kings on Thursday
After taking a rest for two days, the Chennai Super Kings will be in action again on Thursday when they battle the Punjab Kings in their last league match. If CSK wants to top the table, then they need to defeat Punjab and hope that Royal Challengers Bangalore beat the Delhi Capitals.
It will be exciting to see how CSK end their league phase. Many fans feel that they are among the favorites to win IPL 2021.
