Most of the innings that Sachin Tendulkar has played in international cricket has brought joy to the Indian fans. However, there have been occasions where the fans have to suffer the heartbreak despite Tendulkar playing to the best of his abilities.
Here are the 3 most painful innings of SachinTendulkar:
1. 175 against Australia in Gwalior
It was a high scoring game against Australia in 2009 where the Kangaroos batted first and posted 350 runs on the board. Nobody expected India to get over the line against a very competent Australian attack, but Tendulkar had other ideas. The little master put on a show and took India to the brink of victory almost single-handedly.
Tendulkar scored more than half of India’s runs alone as he scored 175 runs off 141 balls with 19 fours and 4 sixes. But, none of India’s batsmen apart from Suresh Raina stood there with Tendulkar for a long time, and India, as a result, fell 4 runs short of the target. It was one bitter pill to swallow for the Indian fans.
2. Sachin Tendulkar 136 against Pakistan in Chennai
It was a riveting Test match in Chennai in 1999 where India took a first-innings lead of 16 runs, but courtesy ShahidAfridi’s hundred in the second innings, Pakistan managed to set India a very competitive target of 271 runs in the fourth innings.
It was never going to be easy for India given the fact that Pakistan not only had a world-class spinner in SaqlainMushtaq, they also had some of the best reverse swing bowlers in the world.
Sachin, however, once again fought a lone battle for India. His fighting hundred kept India in the game till the very last moment, but once he was dismissed at the score of 136 as the 7th wicket, Pakistan got back onto the driver’s seat and eventually managed to pull the hosts back.
India lost the Test match by just 12 runs, much to the heartbreak of a lot of fans all over the country.
3. Sachin Tendulkar 65 against Sri Lanka in Kolkata
It was the semi-final of the World Cup 1996 between India and Sri Lanka and India walked into it as the firm favorites. Sri Lanka batted first and India managed to restrict them to a score of 250 which they backed themselves to chase.
And, the way Tendulkar started, it seemed Sri Lanka might not be able to stop him at all because almost everything was coming out of the middle of his bat as he raced to his half-century in no time.
India also approached its hundred pretty quickly and the match was slipping away from Sri Lanka, but then out of nowhere, the part-time left-arm spinner SanathJayasuriya got Sachin stumped down the leg side at the score of 65.
After Sachin’s dismissal, India suffered a dramatic collapse and lost the game to get eliminated from the World Cup. The spectators were so angry with India’s performance that they started throwing objects on the ground. It got very ugly at Eden Gardens.
