BCCI Likely To Approach Couple Of Former Indian Cricketers For A Head Coach Post

Many cricket fans would know that the current head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team Ravi Shastri is expected to leave his position once the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 is done and dusted. There will be a vacant position in the coaching staff of the Indian men’s cricket team. Quite a few members of the cricket universe have given their views on who should be the next coach.

Now, according to a report by PTI, there are two former Indian cricket team stars who are likely to be in contention for that vacant spot. One of the two names is the former head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team, Anil Kumble. He had a controversial tenure, which ended with Ravi Shastri replacing him. The second name is the former Indian cricket team middle-order batsman and current Sunrisers Hyderabad team mentor VVS Laxman.

It also depends on whether Kumble or Laxman are ready to apply for the job: Sources

Both Anil Kumble and VVS Laxman are associated with the Indian Premier League franchises at the moment. As mentioned ahead, Laxman is the mentor of the Sunrisers Hyderabad team, whereas Anil Kumble is the head coach of the Punjab Kings team. A senior BCCI source privy to this development informed PTI:

“Anil Kumble’s exit needs course correction. The manner in which the CoA succumbed to the pressure of Kohli and removed him, wasn’t the best example set. However, it also depends on whether Kumble or Laxman are ready to apply for the job.”
