“This substantiates speculations about the rift,” Mohammed Azharuddin not happy with reports of Virat Kohli taking a break

Mohammed Azharuddin is currently the president of Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA)

The former Indian captain and the current president of Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA), Mohammed Azharuddin, has raised concerns over the fact that both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are taking a break from the South Africa tour at a time when a captaincy transition has happened in Indian cricket and people are already talking about the rift between the two players.

Recently, Virat Kohli was replaced by Rohit Sharma as the white ball captain of India and Rohit Sharma, thereafter, was also named as the test vice-captain of India. However, just one day before entering the bio bubble of the Indian team ahead of the South Africa tour, news broke out that Rohit had a hamstring injury due to which he won’t be a part of the test series against South Africa. But, he will be fit in time for the ODI series.

And then another report surfaced which suggested that Virat Kohli has already informed BCCI that he wouldn’t take part in the ODI series against South Africa. While BCCI has officially confirmed the fact that Rohit has been ruled out of the test series, they are yet to confirm the unavailability of Virat for the ODI series. Mohammed Azharuddin, however, confirmed on his Twitter handle that Virat has informed the board.

According to Azharuddin, if a player wants to take a break at any given point of time, that’s alright, but the timing of the break is important. The timing right now is such that this break is only going to fuel speculations about the rift even further and people will get an opportunity to make assumptions and present them as facts, which could have been easily avoided.

Mohammed Azharuddin is close to the developments in the BCCI at the moment, as he is the chairman of HCA and only recently attended the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the board. Even though he is not a part of the apex council of the board, him raising concerns over the fact that both Rohit and Virat are taking a break one after the other simply means that not everyone in the BCCI is happy about the situation.

It is being said at this stage that Virat Kohli is withdrawing from the South Africa ODIs because he wants to spend some time with his family on his daughter’s first birthday.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
