Mark Boucher reveals reason behind AB de Villiers not coming out of retirement

Yesterday was a sad day for cricketing fans all over the globe. There came news which broke hopes of the entire cricketing fraternity. Cricket South Africa revealed a piece of essential information before the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup. They stated that their star player AB de Villiers wouldn’t come out of retirement to play. Hence we won’t witness Mr 360 in the upcoming South Africa series against West Indies and Ireland.

Certain rumors were being featured on-air regarding his comeback out of retirement. The fans were hoping to see him back in action at the international level. The cricketer was also in good shape as he had an excellent first half of IPL 2021.

However, the South African head coach Mark Boucher went to reveal the reason behind this. He stated to The Citizen,

“‘AB has his reasons, which I respect. Unfortunately, he’s no longer in the mix. I say unfortunately because I think we all agree that he’s still one of the best – if not the best – T20 players in world cricket.”

Boucher went on to continue that AB didn’t want to take place ahead of the other players. Those players who have already been part of the system can’t be changed. He added that having a player like AB de Villiers in the squad boost so much morale. But he also understands his reasoning for not coming out of retirement.

AB de Villiers had an excellent IPL phase this year.

The African batsman had a good IPL season this year. Even though the edition didn’t complete, but he showed his pure skills. He managed to smash 207 runs from 7 games that he played. His batting strike rate for the season was 164.28, which showcases his hard-hitting skills. He would have been a great addition to South Africa’s squad, but now nothing can be done much about it.
