The fourth Test of the ongoing Ashes has ended in a draw. At one point, Australia seemed on course for a win. However, the English batters survived the final session to eventually share the honours. Australia had to resort to an attacking field-set in a bid to take a wicket. Kolkata Knight Riders drew a comparison of this incident to one of the famous moments in the history of IPL. In this article, we take a look at how KKR compared the Sydney Test situation to Gambhir’s famous field setting for MS Dhoni.
Sydney Test ends in a draw
The Day 5 of the Sydney Test was set up such that an English win was ruled out of the equation. It either had to be an Aussie win or a draw, with the latter ending up as the result.
However, much of it had to do with the resilience of England’s lower-order batters. Australia tried every tactic in the book, including calling upon Steve Smith to roll his arm over. Although he did take a wicket, Australia could not take England’s last scalp and hence, had to settle for a draw.
KKR compares the Sydney Test situation to Gambhir’s famous field setting for MS Dhoni
A couple of years ago, when MS Dhoni was playing for Rising Pune Supergiants, Gautam Gambhir had adopted a Test-match field setting for Dhoni, who was new to the crease. At that point in time, it was a given that MSD usually started slow. Hence, to enforce the situation, the KKR skipper had four close-in fielders, something that almost never happens in a T20 game. KKR compared that event to the latest one in Sydney. Here is a look at the post:

Naturally, the post appeared distasteful for a section of Indian cricket fans. Hence, in the quote and the reply section, there were plenty of comments calling out KKR for the post.
