Its Not Delhi But CSK Bid For The Most Players At IPL 2022 Auctions

The IPL 2022 Mega-Auctions was an extremely engaging event for the fans of the game. Considering two more teams were in the fray, the pattern of money expenditure was not well-defined. At times, after having lost their original targets, franchises went for other alternatives. Hence, the time of the event also stretched a little. Now, courtesy of ESPN Cricinfo, an interesting number is out for us to absorb. As per the platform, it has emerged that CSK bid for the most players at IPL 2022 auctions.

CSK bid for the most players at IPL 2022 auctions

Chennai Super Kings won IPL 2021 and hence, it was expected that most teams would be interested in their former players. On the flipside, CSK has a long tradition of retaining its core. Hence, there was a conflict, and CSK could not buy back players such as Faf du Plessis and Shardul Thakur. Therefore, they had to involve themselves in the market to get a replacement. Similarly, either due to their strategies or based on how auction dynamics panned out, different franchises had different reasons to lift the paddle. Here is how the number looks like:

Meanwhile, it was surprising to see that Delhi Capitals actually bid for fewer players than CSK. Kiran Kumar Grandhi and co. were on fire on Day 1. They went after most players who came under the hammer. However, on the second day, they were reserved and had a list of players on whom they want after.

A hole or two in each team

After the conclusion of the auctions, it seems that there are a couple of holes in every franchise. This was expected as the tournament had increased the number of participants. It now needs to be seen if that would have an effect on the quality of the league. IPL 2022 is likely to start by the end of March.
