“It’s my 6th IPL hundred, I don’t give myself enough credit,” Virat Kohli says he doesn’t care what people say outside about his T20 batting

Virat Kohli scored a magnificent hundred in a must win game for RCB against SRH last night

The former Indian captain Virat Kohli, whose performances have been a bit up and down in the ongoing IPL season, had some strong words for his detractors in the post match ceremony yesterday. Kohli was declared man of the match for his stunning hundred against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), which was a must win game for RCB to keep their qualification hopes alive.

While Virat Kohli has been scoring runs consistently in IPL 2023, he still has had to face a lot of criticism for the strike rate at which he is scoring his runs. Kohli’s strike rate was more than decent in the small ground of Chinnaswamy, but his strike rate on away venues, before the last night’s game, was just a tad above a run a ball.

Kohli, however, laid down all the criticism to rest as he scored a 62-ball hundred in a run chase of 187 against SRH, playing away at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad last night. The opening partnership of Virat Kohli and the RCB skipper Faf du Plessis broke the back of the chase for the visitors, as the opening duo added 172 runs for the first wicket itself.

I have got 6 IPL hundreds, not just a few impact knocks: Virat Kohli

Talking in the post match ceremony, Virat Kohli said that when people describe him as an IPL player, it is generally said that he has played a few impact knocks here and there and that’s about it, but that’s not true. He has got several hundreds, total 6 hundreds to be precise.

Kohli also insisted that the reason why he doesn’t play “fancy shots” even in the shortest format of the game is because this is not the only format he is playing. He also has to play test cricket in a few weeks’ time and while scoring runs in T20 cricket, he has to ensure that his test match technique doesn’t suffer. The 34-year old said it doesn’t really matter to him what opinion people have about his T20 batting.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
