“It Is Unfair”- Stuart Broad Not Happy With MCC’s Update To Mankading Rules

There will be three major changes in the laws of cricket from October 1 onwards. One of the most important ones is the update to the law of run-outs. Previously, it was popularly called mankading, and whenever, there was a dismissal of that type, there was always a debate about ‘Spirit of Cricket.’ Now, MCC has updated the law, but Stuart Broad is unhappy.

Yesterday, MCC announced that the bowler can run out a batter if he leaves the stumps before the delivery is bowled. It will be considered a run out, and there should not be conversations whether it is in the Spirit of Cricket or not.

Reacting to this change, veteran England Test cricket team fast bowler Stuart Broad wrote on his official Twitter account:

“So the Mankad is no longer unfair & is now a legitimate dismissal. Hasn’t it always been a legitimate dismissal & whether it is unfair is subjective? I think it is unfair & wouldn’t consider it, as IMO, dismissing a batter is about skill & the Mankad requires zero skill.”

Broad has clarified that although the laws have been updated, he would never consider it is as a form of dismissal because according to him, it requires zero skills.

Fans slammed Stuart Broad for his opinion on the new laws

Stuart Broad’s tweet has gone viral on the micro-blogging platform, with fans from across the world posting their reactions to his views. One of the fans urged the fast bowler to ask England cricket team to return the Cricket World Cup because they used overthrow runs which did not involve any batting skill.

It does not matter what the players and the retired players comment. The MCC have updated the laws, and it should not be a surprise if the bowlers use the mode of dismissal more in the coming years.
