After all of the tensions and events that transpired in the 2012 edition of the Indian Premier League, IPL 2013 came in like a breath of fresh air. But the joy was not long-lived as yet again a spot-fixing case came to light and 3 players from the Rajasthan Royals were arrested. One thing that it brought along, a new winner of the tournament, in the form of the Mumbai Indians, who in the finals defeated the Chennai Super Kings, and got to their first tournament win ever, and it was Rohit Sharma leading the charge for them. So now let us have a look at some really intriguing numbers from the tournament.

Most Runs in IPL 2013:

‘Mr Cricket’, Michael Hussey in IPL 2013 went past every other batsman in the fray and grabbed the orange cap with 733 runs to his name in 17 matches. His closest competitor for the cap and position at the top was Chris Gayle who had scored 708 runs in 16 matches and could have potentially overtaken him had he gotten another match.

The players at number 3, 4 and 5 were far apart from those in the top 2. Virat Kohli, at number 3 had 634 runs in 16 matches, Suresh Raina, who was positioned at number 4 was behind Kohli by a healthy margin as he had only 548 runs in his account. Wrapping up the affairs of the top 5 was Shane Watson of the Rajasthan Royals who scored 543 runs in 16 matches.

Such was his impact and ability with the bat in hand.

Shane Watson, Dravid’s teammate was the batsman to hit the 4th highest number of fours in the tournament. Chris Gayle, made another appearance, this time for hitting the ball along the ground past the boundary ropes. Gayle en route to his total of 708 runs in 16 matches hit 57 fours in total, and his strike rate of 156.29 is representative of that.
