“I Didn’t Wanna Retire”- The Undertaker Opens Up On Retiring Inside WWE Thunderdome At Survivor Series 2020

The Undertaker, recently revealed the reason for his retirement from the WWE ring back in 2020. He did so during an interview with Chris Van Vliet.

Undertaker is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, name in wrestling. A leader of the locker room, he has given us some of the immortal moments in WWE over the years. His popularity has transcended decades form WWF to WWE and he was one of the OGs who wrestled until recently. As the years piled on, The Phenom’s body took a toll, and his appearances became very rare.

His legendary undefeated streak at WrestleMania was the only thing he would show up to defend. He would appear yearly or once in a few years making him a very special attraction. However, The Deadman finally hung up his wrestling books and retired for good on November 22, 2020 in a retirement ceremony. It was during the “Thunderdome” era during the pandemic and there were no live crowds. The fans were only there via live streaming on the arena screens.

Why did The Undertaker retire from WWE?

In the aforementioned interview, Undertaker explained why he had to retire although he didn’t want to. He stated that his body just couldn’t take the abuse from wrestling anymore.

He said, “I didn’t wanna retire. In my mind, in my heart, there’s nothing more that I want to do than get in the ring and perform…You know, it was my body that just said no, you’re done dude, we got everything out of this we can get, and it’s time for you to move aside and let these guys come up.”

However, he is happy that his retirement came at a time when there was nobody present in the audience live. It would have been very difficult for him to control his emotions in front of a live crowd. Taker finally got his live crowd moment when he was inducted into the Hall Of Fame in 2022. He was visibly emotional during his speech. The Phenom may have retired from in-ring action but we hope to see more of the legend in the years to come.
