India Set To Play 21 International Matches During The Home Season

After a busy season that involved a lot of travelling, the Indian squad will mostly play at home in the upcoming season. In all, India is set to play 21 International matches during the home season. We take a look at the details of the schedule in this article.

An important season coming up for Team India

In multiple contexts, the upcoming season will be very important for Team India. Although the team is coming off a high from winning two Tests in England, multiple controversies are surrounding the team. Also, the management must carefully plan for the transition era with players such as Ajinkya Rahane, Ishant Sharma and Chetheshwar Pujara slowly losing out on the form.

The ICC events in the next couple of years will define the legacy of Team India. The men in blue will be under immense pressure to win the 2023 World Cup at home, and will also have to make amends to win the next cycle of the World Test Championship. This is probably the one way the management could see to arrest the narratives running around.

While India will play T20Is against all teams touring the country, five-day encounters are planned only against New Zealand and Sri Lanka. Indian Premier League is also likely to happen in April-May, and it might be longer since two new teams will join the competition.

New Zealand will be the major opponent of India during this period. After losing the WTC, India will be keen to win the games against the Kiwis. On the other hand, the plan includes a lot of limited-overs games. This seems to be in preparation for the ICC events scheduled for the next two years.
