Ajinkya Rahane didn’t get selected for the Indian squad for the Test series against Australia
Indian batter Ajinkya Rahane was axed from India’s squad for the home Test series against Sri Lanka last year after poor outings for more than a year. He failed to get going in almost every match and was criticised a lot for blocking the way for youngsters.
After that suffered an injury and never found himself back in the side. But he made a staggering comeback in the domestic circuit as he broke all the shackles and returned to form after being under heat for a long time.
The right-hander has been consistently smashing runs in Ranji Trophy and had amassed 532 runs across five matches so far this season. With him being the senior and scoring runs consistently in the domestic circuit, it was expected that he might get selected in the Indian squad for the series against Australia.
“I’ve gone back to the drawing board and I’m trying to be the Ajinkya what I used to be in my initial days,” says Rahane
But this wasn’t the case as he wasn’t picked. Rahane’s place in Team was taken by Shreyas Iyer, who has been consistently performing and it’s fair to say that he has sealed the spot. Many youngsters too have been on the bench and it’ll be difficult for Rahane to make a comeback.
Despite not getting selected in the India side, Rahane is optimistic and said that he has gone back to the old days and is trying to be like he used to be in the initial days. Speaking to PTI, he said: “I’ve gone back to the drawing board and I’m trying to be the Ajinkya what I used to be in my initial days.”
