Former Proteas captain Faf du Plessis has already fallen out of the selectors’ radar in international cricket. It remains to be seen whether or not he makes a national comeback.
Despite having age on his side, Faf du Plessis has always been giving absolutely everything on the field as a captain, batsman and fielder as far as the Indian Premier League is concerned.
Faf du Plessis represents Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL. He took charge as the RCB captain in the previous edition of the IPL. As it turned out, he led the team ever so well in his maiden season as an RCB player.
Royal Challengers Bangalore played pretty well in the league stage and also qualified for the playoffs by finishing fourth on the points table. Moreover, they went a step ahead by knocking Lucknow Super Giants out of the Eliminator.
Faf du Plessis says he needs to be himself as captain
Royal Challengers Bangalore reached the end of the road after they were knocked out by Rajasthan Royals in the second qualifier. While speaking on RCB Podcast Season 2, Faf du Plessis opened up about how he learnt the tricks and trade of captaincy from Graeme Smith, Stephen Fleming and MS Dhoni in his cricketing journey.
While speaking in the second episode of RCB Podcast Season 2, Faf du Plessis said that he was always fascinated by learning captaincy lessons from great leaders.
Speaking on the same lines, he added that he is going to be Graeme Smith as a captain. Furthermore, he said he is not going to be MS Dhoni as a captain or not going to be Stephen Fleming as captain.
Instead, he said he needs to be himself as a captain so that there is a new sense of purpose in leading the team from the front. He also added that he found this new purpose while playing at Royal Challengers Bangalore.
