Asked to bat first, South African batters struggled to get going against the Australian pacers, who were breathing fire. Only Kyle Verreynne looked a bit settled as he scored 63 runs and powered Proteas total to 152 runs. Apart from Cameron Green, every bowler was amongst the wickets with Nathan Lyon being the pick of the bowlers with 3/14 to his name.
South African pacers then didn’t give leeway to Australian batters as well as they bundled them out for 210 runs. Thanks to Travis Head’s (92) counter-attacking innings they managed a lead of over 50 runs as the rest of the other batters failed to get going. Kagiso Rabada was the pick of the bowlers with 4 wickets to his name.
While many expected South African batters to put on a good display but it wasn’t the case as Australian bowlers yet again make life difficult for them. Skipper Pat Cummins led from the front and toon fifer to bowl out the Proteas for just 99 runs, setting themselves a target of just 34 runs.
Kagiso Rabada then made these 34 runs look like a mountain for the hosts as he took a quick four-wicket haul and left them tottering at 24/4. But in the end, the target wasn’t much as Australia bagged a 6-wicket win to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
