“I don’t see India winning this series,” Aakash Chopra not confident about India’s chances on South Africa tour

Aakash Chopra has predicted the series to be a 1-1 draw or to be won 2-1 by South Africa

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra doesn’t think that India will be able to beat South Africa in the upcoming 3-match test series starting tomorrow. Aakash is of the opinion that the series might end in a draw or South Africa will emerge out winners, but it’s difficult for India to win this series.

According to Aakash Chopra, he would have probably said South Africa would win the series by 2-1, if Anrich Nortje was still available for them. But, with Nortje getting ruled out, India might win a test match and comes out of the series with a draw.

Aakash reckons South Africa is a team that is still going through a transition. It can’t be called a well settled team at this stage because quite a few players are finding their feet, but they have recently shown in the T20 World Cup in the UAE that they are not lacking potential.

When India had toured South Africa last, the Proteas had the services of some of the great players of the game. The likes of AB de Villiers, Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis were still there for South Africa and the batting of AB de Villiers in the first two test matches was actually the difference between the two teams.

Even with the ball, South Africa had two of their premier fast bowlers of the last 10 years, Dale Steyn and Vernon Philander, operating with the new ball and both of them had exploited the seamy conditions extremely well. But, it’s not the same this time around. The hosts lack a bit of experience with the bat now and even with the ball, although Kagiso Rabada is there, the bowling unit as a whole hasn’t really played a lot of test matches together.

Indian team not going through a transition like South Africa: Aakash Chopra

Talking about the Indian team on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra says that it’s a different situation with India, because they are not going through a transition as such. The issue with India is that some of their key players are struggling with form and some are not available due to injury, but it’s not a situation where the players are finding their feet.

It, however, might still turn out to be a massive challenge for the Indian batsmen because they have not had a lot of preparation going into this series. They have had a few practice sessions and an open net, but there has been no warm up game.

Supersport Park, Centurion is a venue where South Africa has had a great record historically and India will have to be at the top of their game to change it.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
