How many more games Mumbai Indians must avoid losing to stay alive in IPL 2022?

One of the surprising happenings of IPL 2022 has been the dismal form of Mumbai Indians. The most successful franchise in the league’s history, Mumbai Indians actually had a decent auction. However, so far, they have played six games and lost all of them. At the moment, IPL 2022 seems to be coming to a close for the franchise. That said, the team has been in a similar position before and they did well then. Hence, nothing can be ruled out. On that note, in this article, we take a look at the number of games Mumbai Indians must avoid losing to stay alive in IPL 2022.

Mumbai Indians will find it hard to stay alive in IPL 2022

So far, Mumbai Indians have lost to Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants. In all these matches, MI have not been able to strike a balance between the performances of their batting and their bowling units. This is surprising considering the franchise has always done well in this context.

The journey is quite hard for the five-time champions now. In the eight games that MI has in the group stage, they can afford only one loss so that they can stay alive in IPL 2022. Mumbai will come up against some in-form teams and hence, the chances look bleak at the moment.

The team management has taken a few debatable decisions

The performances of the key players such as Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard and Ishan Kishan have not been impressive so far. While that has been a problem, the management has also looked off-colour this season. They have been repeatedly making some debatable decisions, which has cost them a horrible start to the campaign.

The likes of Tim David have not been backed while the franchise has given multiple chances to players such as Daniel Sams and Basil Thampi. In a few games, MI did not even use all the four overseas spots in the XI. While they have been doing well with grooming the youngsters, the management might have to better if they want the campaign to be back on track.
