Shahrukh Khan, reckoned by many as one of the top finishers in Indian domestic cricket, has set his base price INR 40 lakh for the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. Some fans are confused are seeing this because the maximum base price that a player can set is INR 2 crore. Some feel that this is a strategy. However, it is not any special strategy.
According to the IPL Auction rules, the internationally uncapped players cannot set their base price more than 40 lakh. The minimum is 20 lakh, while the maximum is 40 lakh. Khan has thus decided to set his base price at the highest level that an uncapped player.
Khan is one of the standby players of the Indian squad for the upcoming series against the West Indies cricket team. Thus, there is a chance of him making his international debut soon, but his IPL base price will remain 40 lakh only. Here’s what Dinesh Karthik said about Khan recently:
“Shahrukh Khan is knocking on the doors, he is very close and he is within touching distance. I have no doubt that when he gets the opportunity, he will do very well for Team India.”
What is the base price of Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara?
Almost all Indian Premier League franchises will target a player like Shahrukh Khan at the mega auction. The eagle-eyed fans have noticed that on the IPL Auction 2022 player list, the duo of Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara, who majorly play Test cricket only have set a higher base price than Shahrukh Khan.
Rahane will enter the IPL 2022 Mega Auction with a base price of INR 1 crore, whereas Pujara, who was a member of the IPL 2021-winning Chennai Super Kings has entered with a base price of INR 50 lakh. The simple reason behind it is that they are capped players so they can set base price upto INR 2 crore.
