IPL 2023News

“A century for KKR after 227 matches!”, Twitter reacts as Venkatesh Iyer becomes the second centurion for KKR since 2008 after Brendon McCullum

Not many expected Venkatesh Iyer to do well in IPL 2023, especially after his performances last season. However, he has been excellent so far and his best knock came about against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. He scored a century and in the process, he broke many records for KKR. On that note, here, we take a look at how Twitter reacted as Venkatesh Iyer becomes the second centurion for KKR since 2008 after Brendon McCullum.

Venkatesh Iyer becomes the second centurion for KKR

One aspect that KKR has not been exceptional in is the number of centuries that the players have scored. In the first game of IPL 2008, Brendon McCullum scored a century for KKR. After that, it has been more than 15 years and yet, the team did not have a centurion. This is despite some of the best IPL batters such as Robin Uthappa and Gautam Gambhir donning the jersey of the franchise. However, that wait came to an end on Sunday.

Venkatesh Iyer was under pressure before the season started. Having been retained, he did not have a great outing in IPL 2022. Hence, he had to deliver to justify his price-tag and also ensure that KKR does well. He has been good in this season and despite having an injury issue early against Mumbai Indians, he overcame that to score a stunning century for KKR. This knock will go down as one of the best in the history of the franchise.
