The England cricket team started their run in the tour to India on Friday, as the 1st Test of the 4 match series, in Chennai. When the Englishmen stepped on to the crease, one thing stood out on their jerseys, it was the black armbands that they were donning. And, as it turns out, it was in honour and memory of the recently deceased World War 2 Veteran from their country, Captain Sir Tom Moore.
The England tour of India has 4 Tests, 5 T20 Internationals and 3 One Day Internationals set to be played over the course of February and into March, with the last match being an ODI being played in the city of Pune. And, the first match went underway in Chennai and during the first day, of the game.
Captain Sir Tom Moore, before passing away due to a coronavirus infection at the age of 100 years, had raised close to 40 million pounds for National Heal Service Charities. He walked the laps of his garden during the lockdown that was implemented in England during the first wave of the Coronavirus outbreak. He had walked 100 laps of his backyard during the lockdown, and the video clip of his started doing rounds on the internet and the donations from across the globe started pouring in, totalling to be around, a whopping 40 million pounds.

The captain of the England cricket team, Joe Root, when speaking about Sir Tom Moore, in a video released on the England Cricket Twitter handle, explained how his family would be proud of the legacy that he had left behind.
“I am sure his family will be extremely proud of the legacy he leaves behind. (He was) Someone that gave the whole nation something to smile about in a dark time. All the great things he did for the NHS, all the way. He lifted so many people’s spirits throughout the pandemic. On behalf of the whole England team we want to send our thoughts to his family, “said Root.
As told by Root later in the video, Sir Moore was also a great cricket fan and loved following the sport. Root told that once he had gotten a chance to speak to Sir Tom Moore during which he had told Root that he loved watching games of cricket, whether it be a county match or watching international cricket on the television.
After Sir Tom Moore passes away on Wednesday, his family, put out a picture on Twitter, announcing his death, and the same was re-Tweeted by England Cricket, following which the video featuring Root was posted.
