“He Has Got Every Bit As Much Talent As I Had”- Ricky Ponting Wants Turn Prithvi Shaw Into A Player Who Plays 100 Tests

Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting appreciated his squad’s young opener, Prithvi Shaw, after his twin fifties in the last two IPL matches. The 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League is currently happening in Maharashtra, with 10 franchises competing against each other to win the coveted prize. Delhi Capitals have made a good start, winning two of their first four matches in the competition.

Prithvi Shaw played a vital role in the team’s last win against the Kolkata Knight Riders as he scored a match-winning half-century at the top of the order in the first innings. Ricky Ponting was full of praise for the young Indian opener after his performance.

While speaking on a podcast of the Delhi Capitals team, Ponting said that he wants to turn Prithvi Shaw into a player who plays more than 100 Test matches at the international level. Here’s what Ponting was quoted as saying:

“If I look at Prithvi’s play, he has got every bit as much talent as I had, if not more, and I want to be able to turn him into a player that plays over 100 Test matches for India and represents his country as much as possible.”

Ricky Ponting recalled how he elevated Mumbai Indians stars to the next level

During the same podcast, Ricky Ponting recalled how he helped players like Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya jump to the next level during his stint as the coach of the Mumbai Indians franchise.

“A lot of the guys that I have coached there have gone on to play cricket for India, and that’s what I want to do here,” the former Australian cricket team captain added.

Youngsters like Ripal Patel and Lalit Yadav are with DC this year along with Kuldeep Yadav who seems to have regained his touch. It will be interesting to see how big do the DC stars make it in their careers.
