Explained: Here’s why Jasprit Bumrah is donning 100 Number Jersey in match vs. Chennai

Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are currently battling in the 30th match of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat first in Dubai. Notably, Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma were missing in the MI playing XI, but Jasprit Bumrah is playing.

The Chennai Super Kings got off to a disastrous start as the duo of Trent Boult and Adam Milne wreaked havoc in the first few overs of the match. Boult dismissed opening batsman Faf du Plessis for a duck before sending experienced player Suresh Raina back to the dressing room after he scored only four runs. Meanwhile, Adam Milne picked up the wicket of Moeen Ali and MS Dhoni.

It is a special match for Jasprit Bumrah

Many fans might noticed today that the Mumbai Indians fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is playing against the Chennai Super Kings, wearing the number 100 on his back. Normally, Bumrah does not don this jersey number. But he was presented a special jersey of number 100 from Zaheer Khan earlier today.

The reason why Bumrah is wearing the number 100 jersey is because it is his 100th match in the Indian Premier League. The best thing is that all of his IPL appearances have come for one team – Mumbai Indians. The Mumbai-based franchise handed him his maiden IPL cap back in the year 2013, and today, Bumrah is playing his 100th IPL match for them.

Mumbai Indians bowlers have dominated Chennai Super Kings batsmen in Dubai

As of this writing, 18 overs have been bowled in the Chennai Super Kings, where the team has scored only 117 runs at the loss of five wickets. It is a good score, considering how the Chennai Super Kings lost early wickets.

However, the average first innings score at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium is around 150. Jasprit Bumrah, who is playing in his 100th IPL match today, has picked up one wicket in the match so far and that is of Ravindra Jadeja. That wicket took his overall tally in the IPL to 116 wickets.
