“Due To ICC Rules”- Mitchell Starc Explains Why He Missed ODIs Against SL Despite Being Fit

Mitchell Starc is one of the most dangerous bowlers in world cricket at the moment. The left-arm fast bowler has made a name for himself with his fantastic performances in all three formats of the sport. Starc has been a game-changer for Australia, but his injury issues have forced him to take regular breaks from cricket.

Currently, the Australian cricket team is playing a five-match ODI series against the Sri Lankan cricket team in Sri Lanka. The first two matches of the series are in the history books, with both sides winning a game each. Sri Lanka has a historic chance of winning a five-match series against the Australian cricket team.

Mitchell Starc is fit to play, but because of ICC rules, he is not a part of the playing XI for the ODI series against the Sri Lankan cricket team. Explaining the reason why he did not play the first two ODIs of the series, Starc was quoted as saying as follows by ESPNCricinfo:

“I feel really good with the ball in hand. I’ve had to bowl at training with the tape on, and it’s purely that I can’t do that in the fixture due to the ICC rules which is why I’m not playing. If it’s game three, four, or five [that I play], I’m not sure yet.”
Starc has stitches on his finger and can bowl with a tape on, but the ICC does not permit the bowlers to bowl with a tape.

Mitchell Starc aims to play in the Test series

During the same chat, Starc admitted that he is fit to bowl, but he is unsure if he will play in the final three ODI matches of the series against the Sri Lankan cricket team.

He said that his aim is to be fit for the ICC World Test Championship series against the islanders.
