Virender Sehwag names 5 Indian players who can be groomed before next T20 World Cup

Sehwag wants some of the senior Indian players to be given a break

With India having struggled in the T20 World Cup 2021, Virender Sehwag wants the Indian selectors to try a few promising youngsters in the home season and get them ready for the next T20 World Cup in Australia.

Virender Sehwag wants some of the senior players of the Indian T20I side to be given a bit of a break which they deserve as well, as they have been playing overseas for quite some time now and in the meantime, the selectors will have the opportunity to see how good the young players are.

Five players that Virender Sehwag has specifically mentioned who should be given a run in the upcoming home season are Ishan Kishan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul.

Suryakumar Yadav is not a young player but hasn’t got regular opportunities

Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul are not really young players at this stage of their careers, but from international cricket’s point of view, Suryakumar has not got a lot of exposure. He just played a handful of games for India before coming into the T20 World Cup 2021.

Shreyas Iyer is also a similar case. While he has played at no. 4 for India in ODI cricket for a little while, he has been in and out of the Indian T20 playing XI, and he is perhaps someone who can also be given a few regular opportunities in the middle order.

Virender Sehwag is of the opinion that Ruturaj Gaikwad will also be in the frame before the next T20 World Cup as he has not only done well in the IPL, he is going brilliantly in the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy as well, which is the domestic T20 tournament in India. The CSK opener has already scored three consecutive half-centuries in the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy for Maharashtra.

“Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, KL Rahul and perhaps in the next world cup Ruturaj Gaikwad could be there and also Shreyas Iyer as well. These players can be groomed and given opportunities because they are the future,” Sehwag said on his social media show Virugiri on Facebook and Instagram.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
