“Should I sit out myself?” KL Rahul snaps back at the reporter who asks if Virat Kohli should open the batting for India

Virat Kohli scored his first ever T20I hundred while opening the batting against Afghanistan yesterday

The Indian vice-captain KL Rahul was in no mood at all to entertain any complicated selection questions from the journalists as he came out to address the press conference after the conclusion of India’s campaign in Asia Cup 2022 yesterday.

India played their last game in the Asia Cup against Afghanistan and secured a thumping win of over 100 runs, but that was still not enough to get them through to the final of the tournament. However, one positive thing that came out of the match for India was that Virat Kohli scored an international hundred after almost 3 years.

KL Rahul was asked in the post-match press conference if he thinks opening the batting is the right kind of role for Virat Kohli in T20 cricket as most of the big runs that Kohli has scored in the shortest format of the game, whether in the IPL or in T20Is, it has come while opening the batting.

KL visibly looked unhappy with the question and snapped back at the reporter asking him, “toh kya mai khud baith jau? (should I sit out myself). The right-handed opener, however, explained his point in detail and insisted that Kohli is the kind of batsman who can score big runs at no. 3 too and he doesn’t need to open the batting to score big.

Virat Kohli might have a different role to play in the next series: KL Rahul

According to KL Rahul, it’s all about the role that a player is given for a particular game. Kohli was opening the batting against Afghanistan and he had a certain role to play. In the next series, he might have a different role to play.

It has been a topic of constant discussion among Indian fans if India’s current top 3 should stay as it is or if only two out of those 3 players should play. Since the captain Rohit Sharma is a certain pick in the XI, the discussion is mainly about the places of KL Rahul and Virat Kohli.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
