The 32nd match of the IPL 2022 season happened earlier today at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, where the Delhi Capitals decimated the Punjab Kings team. It looked like a good pitch for batting, but PBKS lost wickets at regular intervals and got all out for just 115 runs. DC showed a lot of intent right from the start and chased the total inside 11 overs.
Speaking about the match, many fans would know that the Delhi Capitals camp was hit by a mini-COVID outbreak. Many support staff members and two players, namely Mitchell Marsh and Tim Seifert, returned positive in their COVID-19 tests. Still, DC took the field and destroyed the Punjab Kings team.
Rishabh Pant won the toss and decided to bowl first. The decision worked in his team’s favor as the spin bowlers of DC did not allow the PBKS batters to post a big total on the board. Axar Patel, Lalit Yadav and Kuldeep Yadav bagged two wickets each as PBKS struggled to touch the 100-run mark.
Khaleel Ahmed chipped in with two wickets as well. A 23-ball 32 from Jitesh Sharma ensured that the Punjab Kings finished with 115 runs in their 20 overs. Chasing 116 to win, Prithvi Shaw and David Warner attacked the Punjab Kings bowlers from the first ball. They had a 83-run partnership off just 6.3 overs. Shaw departed to the dressing room, but Sarfaraz Khan and David completed the formalities.
Kuldeep Yadav won the Man of the Match award for his two-wicket haul. Here’s what he said at the post-match presentation:
“First of all, I would like to share this award with Axar Patel. He bowled very well and took some important wickets in the middle overs. I think we deserved it more. I have played with KG for a while and he does not move his foot so I planned that I will bowl a leg-spinner and then bowl a googly.”
