The one player whose name has been in the news a lot has been Bhuvneshwar Kumar. His absence from the Test format has been hunting India a lot as the Indian side lacks the swing bowler. The WTC final resulting in India’s loss also reflected the lack of swing from the pace department.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has not played the Test match for the last three years. The previous Test match which he played was against South Africa on 24th January 2018. Since then, specific injuries and fitness concerns have kept him out of the longer format.
There were talks about him being sent as the replacement to the UK for the England series. However, the final decision didn’t turn out to be positive for the bowler. According to the reports in the Times of India,
“The board had a discussion with Bhuvneshwar. It has been decided that he won’t be pushed to play Test cricket before the T20 World Cup. He has to first play three-four First-Class games. He hasn’t played the longer format for over three years. There’s a chance of him breaking down if he suddenly resumes playing Test cricket.”
The reports further went on to continue that the decision might take place in December. Bhuvi’s future in red-ball cricket might be decided before the South Africa series.
Not Bhuvneshwar Kumar but BCCI has reportedly decided to send three players as a replacement to the UK
As per reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India decided to send Prithvi Shaw, Suryakumar Yadav, and Jayant Yadav as a replacement in England series.
Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan, and Washington Sundar are the three players who have been ruled out due to injuries. India didn’t ask for the replacement of Avesh Khan as the side already has so many pacers.
