Now that the T20 World Cup 2022 has almost come to its conclusion, it is time to discuss about the players who performed phenomenally in the tournament. ICC gives the Player of the Tournament trophy award to the best overall performer in a tournament and they have already announced the names of the shortlisted players for this year.
Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Jos Buttler, Alex Hales, Sam Curran, Sikandar Raza and Wanindu Hasaranga are the players who have been shortlisted for the award and any one out of these players will win it after the final.
Netizens are of the opinion that Virat Kohli deserves this trophy the most for his phenomenal performance with team India this year. He is so far the highest run scorer in the tournament and he has had a tremendous impact on a lot of games.
However, upon being asked this same question, the two finalist captains had a very different response.
Jos Buttler, for example, said that Suryakumar Yadav was more deserving to win the award. However, Sam Curran or Alex Hales could also steal it from him with a top performance in the final against Pakistan.
Babar Azam, on the other hand, thinks that Pakistan’s Shadab Khan deserves the award the most. In true sense, Shadab Khan has been India’s best overall player in the T20 World Cup 2022 so far. He has scored crucial runs with the bat and he has also picked up wickets in almost all the matches. He is one of the sole reasons why Pakistan has been able to make it this far in the tournament.
Pakistan and England will take on each other for the T20 World Cup 2022 trophy at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 13th November in the final match from 1:30 PM IST.
