“Ramiz Raja has shared 1992 World Cup memories with us which has boosted our confidence,” Babar Azam reveals what PCB chairman told the team ahead of T20 World Cup final

The PCB chairman Ramiz Raja is currently in Australia to attend ICC annual meeting

Pakistan captain Babar Azam has revealed that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja had a chat with the players when he reached Melbourne to attend the ICC meeting yesterday.

Babar said that since Ramiz himself has been a part of the World Cup winning team in Australia three decades back in 1992, he shared the memories of that tournament with the teaṃ which boosted the team’s confidence ahead of the T20 World Cup final against England.

The ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 has a bit of a resemblance with the ODI World Cup of 1992. The resemblance is there in the sense that in 1992 as well, Pakistan was on the verge of getting eliminated from the tournament at one point in time, but they somehow managed to reach the knockouts with a little bit of help from rain and then they beat New Zealand in the semis to reach the finals where they faced England.

Exactly the same is happening this time around and the Pakistan fans, because of this resemblance, are hoping and believing that Pakistan can win this T20 World Cup as well. The final of the 1992 ODI World Cup was also held at the MCG, the ground where tomorrow’s final will be held again.

I have asked the Pakistan players that such opportunities come rarely: Ramiz Raja

Ramiz Raja said yesterday that he has asked the Pakistani players to go and enjoy the final because the opportunity to play a World Cup final in such a big stadium comes very rarely and it might not come again for most of the players of the current team. Ramiz said it’s the same message that his captain Imran Khan had delivered to him 30 years back and now he has delivered it to the current team.

Babar Azam said in today’s press conference that there is excitement rather than nervousness among his players and everyone is just looking to enjoy the occasion.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
