5 Oldest Indian Players Shortlisted For IPL 2022 Mega-Auctions

IPL recently announced the list of players who have been shortlisted for the upcoming auctions. A total of 590 players will go under the hammer on February 12th and 13th in Bengaluru. As per reports, this is likely to be the final mega-auction. Hence, teams might want to spend a little extra on youngsters while the veterans could be at the receiving end of a few upsets. On that note, in this article, we take a look at the five oldest Indian players who have been shortlisted for the IPL 2022 Mega-Auctions.

5) Kedar Jadhav – 36 Years

Kedar Jadhav stands at No.5 in this list of oldest Indian players who have been shortlisted for the IPL 2022 Mega-Auctions. The Maharashtra cricketer has not had a great time in IPL in the last few seasons. Last season, he turned up for Sunrisers Hyderabad but could not replicate his old form.

Although there are two more teams in the fray, it will be difficult for Kedar to earn a place in the playing XI of any franchise. That said, he could come in as a backup option in the middle-order for a few teams. The player boasts of decent experience and this might help him in bagging a contract.

4) Wriddhiman Saha – 37 Years

Wriddhiman Saha has been a regular feature in IPL for the last few years. The scorer of a century in the final of IPL 2014, Saha has been playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in recent seasons.

A domestic wicket-keeper is a must for every team. Hence, there are likely to be a couple of suitors for the West Bengal player in IPL 2022 Mega-Auctions. The team combination will decide if he walks straight into the playing XI or not.

3) Murali Vijay – 37 Years

Murali Vijay was once a rage in the competition. In the initial seasons, he was one of the best batsmen in the league. However, along with his form for Team India, Vijay also lost his touch in the IPL.

He did get a chance to shine again with CSK after his home franchise picked him up in 2018. However, he could not make the best use of his chances. Vijay is inactive in domestic cricket and could be in danger of getting unsold.

2) S Sreesanth – 38 Years

S Sreesanth will feature in an IPL Auction after a long time. After the spot-fixing scandal in 2013, Sreesanth has not been a part of the league. He had registered for IPL 2021 Auctions but was not shortlisted. However, his name was on the final list for the mega-auction.

A pacer of age close to 40 might not be preferred in IPL. Also, the disappointing recent domestic form and the controversial past could play in the minds of franchises when the Kerala pacer’s name comes up. Hence, it would be hard for him to find a franchise.

1) Amit Mishra – 39 Years

Amit Mishra leads this list of the oldest Indian players who have been shortlisted for the IPL 2022 Mega-Auctions. A consistent feature from the very start of the competition, the leg-spinner has, so far, collected 166 wickets in 154 games. In fact, he is the highest wicket-taking Indian in the history of the competition.

However, the last few seasons have not gone in the desired way for the player. While he suffered an injury in IPL 2020, underwhelming form and lack of opportunities hindered his time in IPL 2021. Unfortunately, this could repeat in the future seasons. If there is a team that is interested in a backup leg-spinner for a season or two, the player could get sold.
