Shreyas Iyer Breaks Silence After DC Decided To Continue With Pant As Captain

Former Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer has finally broken his silence after the team management decided to continue with Rishabh Pant as the captain of the Delhi-based franchise in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League. Many fans would remember that Iyer was the captain of the Delhi Capitals team last year when they qualified for the IPL 2020 Final.

Also, Iyer took the franchise to the IPL 2019 Playoffs, where they finished third. Although the right-handed batter had been so impressive as the leader of the team, the Delhi Capitals decided against returning the reins of the team to him. Iyer missed the first phase of IPL 2021 because of a shoulder injury. In his absence, the Delhi Capitals appointed Rishabh Pant as the captain. Now Iyer is back into the squad, but the leader is still Rishabh.

I respect the fact and Rishabh is leading the side well from the start of the season: Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer stitched up a magnificent partnership of 67-run partnership with captain Rishabh Pant to help the Delhi Capitals defeat the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2021 match. Playing his first match this year, Iyer scored 47 runs off 41 deliveries, smashing two fours and two sixes. In a virtual press conference after the game, Iyer spoke about the decision of change in captaincy. He said:

“This is part of the decision-making from the franchise or whatever decision they took, I respect the fact and Rishabh is leading the side well from the start of the season and they thought that he should be continued till the season end and I completely respect the decision.”

Delhi Capitals are now number 1 in the IPL 2021 Points Table

Although many fans believed that Shreyas Iyer should have been the captain of the Delhi Capitals team after his return, the fact is that the Delhi-based franchise is currently at the number one spot in the standings.

Last night in Dubai, the Delhi Capitals beat the Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets and returned to the top of the points table. The Rishabh Pant-led outfit have 14 points in nine matches. They are just a step away from the playoff berth now.
