3 Players Delhi Capitals Might Retain Despite Their Poor Performance In IPL 2022

Delhi Capitals had one of the strongest squads on paper in IPL 2022. The DC team management did a decent job at the auction and formed a squad that seemingly had all bases covered. However, the Capitals failed to make it to the playoffs for the first time since 2019. DC had their fate in their hands till their last league match.

Had Delhi Capitals emerged victorious against the Mumbai Indians in their 14th league game, they would have qualified for the playoffs. But they failed to do so, leading to their early exit from the competition.

Since Delhi Capitals had a new squad and narrowly missed out on a place in the playoffs, the team management may not make some harsh calls. They may retain the following three players despite their disappointing performance in IPL 2022.

1. Delhi Capitals may retain Shardul Thakur for IPL 2023

Delhi Capitals splurged a massive 10.75 crore for the services of Shardul Thakur at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. Thakur was the leading wicket-taker for champions Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2021, but this year, he scalped 15 wickets in 14 matches at an expensive economy rate of 9.78. However, Thakur is a game-changer, which is why DC may not release him.

2. Delhi Capitals may retain Kamlesh Nagarkoti for IPL 2023

Kamlesh Nagarkoti made his debut for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2022. The former India U-19 star bowled only two overs for DC, where he conceded 29 runs. Since he is a youngster who is in the learning phase, DC may not release him.

3. Anrich Nortje

Anrich Nortje was the only foreign player retained by Delhi this season. Nortje was suffering from an injury and could play only six matches, where he conceded 217 runs at an economy rate of 9.71. Considering Nortje’s injury issues, DC may ignore his bad performance in IPL 2022 and retain him for the next season.
