3 Mistakes Made By Teams Ahead Of IPL 2022 Mega-Auctions

The IPL 2022 Mega-Auctions came to an end on Sunday. It was an intense affair that saw a specific trend emerge. Since IPL 2022 will be a team-team affair, there was a question of whether the supply vs demand ratio would be fulfilled. The question got an answer with some frantic picks made by the franchises at the auction. On that note, in this article, we take a look at the list of three mistakes made by teams ahead of IPL 2022 Mega-Auctions.

1) Delhi Capitals not retaining Avesh Khan

Delhi Capitals not retaining Avesh Khan is one of the mistakes made by teams ahead of IPL 2022 Mega-Auctions. Although the franchise does look to have a good team on paper, compared to their recent seasons, the bowling line-up looks mediocre.

From Anrich Nortje, R Ashwin, Kagiso Rabada and Avesh Khan, the franchise has been reduced to Anrich Nortje, Kuldeep Yadav, Shardul Thakur and Khaleel Ahmed. The new picks can do well but based on history, DC could have a few problems in IPL 2022. Avesh is still an uncapped player and had they convinced to retain him, it would have cost only INR 4 Cr. The pacer went for INR 10 cr to Lucknow Super Giants eventually.

2) Royal Challengers Bangalore not retaining Harshal Patel

RCB went to the distance of spending INR 10.75 Cr on Harshal Patel. Before the auctions, the franchise made only three retentions. Had they retained Harshal, he would have cost only INR 9 Cr. Now, the franchise has had to spend a little extra.

The extra few crores could have helped the outfit hire some experienced Indian batsmen at the top of the order. Now, they will hope that Harshal Patel replicates his IPL 2021 form next season.

3) Mumbai Indians not retaining Ishan Kishan

Mumbai Indians employed an interesting strategy at IPL 2022 Auctions. They waited and spent almost one-third of their remaining purse on one name – Ishan Kishan (INR 15.25 Cr).

If MI had tried to retain Ishan and release Suryakumar Yadav, they could have had a few benefits. Surya would have surely not gone for the amount that Ishan went for. Moreover, they could have saved more money for other players. Yet, the franchise has a strong squad but some quality in the spin department could have been useful.
