West Indies lost to South Africa by eight wickets in their second game of the ongoing T20 World Cup campaign. With this loss, the two-time champions now have a very slim chance of making it to the next stage. To ensure that they do not miss out on the slightest of openings and to also save themselves from an embarrassment, West Indies need to do well against Bangladesh. Hence, we could see a few changes to the playing XI that lost the game to the Proteas. In this article, we take a look at two changes West Indies should make for their game against Bangladesh on Friday in Sharjah.
1) Roston Chase for Lendl Simmons
One of the changes West Indies should make for their game against Bangladesh is to bring in Roston Chase for Lendl Simmons. This would make way for Chris Gayle to operate at his natural batting position. One of the main reasons West Indies lost the game to South Africa is because of the poor knock by Lendl Simmons. He scored 16 runs from 35 deliveries and could not even manage to hit a single boundary. Hence, he is likely to be dropped from the XI for the next game.
The defending champions could bring in Roston Chase instead of Simmons. Chase would add stability to the batting and at the same time, his arrival would push Gayle up the order. For the overall balance of the XI, this change will be helpful.
2) Obed McCoy for Hayden Walsh
Like in the first game, the West Indian bowlers did not have a great scope for a performance, as the batters had set only an underwhelming score. Yet, the management could make a change or two in this department.
The reason for the change is likely to depend on the opposition and the venue. Hayden Walsh did not have an extraordinary game against South Africa and he could be dropped, although he deserves another chance. This is mainly because Bangladesh plays spin very well, and hence, an extra pace option would be useful. Since Chase is likely to play, West Indies would still have two spin-bowling options in their armoury.
