Here is how Sri Lanka can still qualify for 2022 T20 World Cup Semi Finals

Sri Lanka suffered a heavy loss by 65 runs to New Zealand on Saturday. With this, they now have a difficult path to the semis. Australia and England are the other competitors while New Zealand has almost sealed its spot for the next stage. On that note, here, we take a look at how Sri Lanka can qualify for the ongoing 2022 T20 World Cup Semi Finals.

How can Sri Lanka qualify for the ongoing 2022 T20 World Cup Semi Finals?

Sri Lanka did not start their 2022 T20 World Cup in the right manner. They lost to Namibia in the first round but were able to make a comeback. However, in the Super 12 stage, the team suffered disappointing defeats to Australia and New Zealand. They now have it complicated to make it to the next stage.

Firstly, Sri Lanka has to win its next two games in the competition. While the Dasun Shanaka-led squad will back itself against Afghanistan, it will not be easy against England. Even England will want this victory as this could help them reach the semi-finals. In case Sri Lanka defeats England, they would also want Australia to lose one of its last two matches. Australia’s remaining two games are against Afghanistan and Ireland. It would be difficult to imagine Australia losing to these opponents. Sri Lanka reaching the semi-finals is a possibility but looks difficult at the moment.

A tough challenge for the Asia Cup 2022 champions

Sri Lanka came into the T20 World Cup 2022 with a lot of aspirations. Much of this confidence surrounded the team’s victory in Asia Cup 2022.

However, they qualified for a difficult group and it was anyways going to be hard for them. Against both Australia and New Zealand, Sri Lanka enjoyed a few dominant phases. However, they were not able to capitalize. This now leaves them with the possibility of a potential exit in the Super 12 stage.
