Chris Woakes made a unique record against Jasprit Bumrah in Test Cricket

England cricket team’s pace-bowling all-rounder Chris Woakes returned to the playing XI for the fourth Test match against the Indian cricket team at Kennington Oval in London. Woakes missed the first three matches of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship series because of injury issues. But he has been impressive after his return.

The England cricket team won the toss and elected to bowl first in London for the Kennington Oval Test match. Chris Woakes, who is a right-arm fast bowler, took the first wicket of the match. He broke the opening partnership between KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma by dismissing the latter in the ninth over. Later in the innings, Woakes picked up the wickets of Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant and Shardul Thakur. His four-wicket haul ensured the Indian cricket team did not touch the 200-run mark.

Chris Woakes hit 11 fours in the first innings, and seven of them came against Bumrah. Interestingly, there were two overs in the English innings where Woakes smashed three boundaries. Both were bowled by Jasprit Bumrah. The first one was the 71st over, where Woakes scored four runs on third, fourth and sixth deliveries. Later in the 82nd over, he hit three fours on first, second and fifth ball. After Woakes’ six fours, a Twitter user shared the following unique record made by him:

“Woakes has hit Bumrah for three fours in an over twice since tea. Previously, only one player had hit Bumrah for three boundaries in a Test over – de Kock, for SA, Cape Town, Jan 2018.”
