CES vs WS: The iconic Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham is all set to host the 6th match of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy 2021 between Central Sparks and Western Storm.

Central Sparks squared off against Northern Diamonds in their season opener. The latter side batted first and were bowled out for 279 runs. Opening batswoman Lauren Winfield scored 110 runs off 126 balls. Sparks’ bowler Issy Wong led the bowling attack with a five-wicket haul to her name.
In response, wicket-keeper batswoman Amy Jones scored 114 runs from 114 balls along with an unbeaten 71 runs contribution from spinner Sarah Glenn. These two ensured that the Central Sparks get past the line with ease. They won the game by two wickets and 10 balls to spare.
The game between Western Storm and Thunder saw a nail-biting finish. The Thunder posted a total of 291/8 after 50 overs courtesy of a century by opening batswoman Emma Lamb. Piepa Cleary also did her part but contributing 79 runs to the team’s tally. Talking about Storm’s bowlers, Anya Shrubsole and Georgia Hennessy picked up three wickets each.
In reply, Western Storm chased the target off the last delivery and won the game by one wicket. Heather Knight scored 91 runs and she was supported by Anya Shrubsole, who remained unbeaten during her quickfire knock of 61 runs off 41 balls. They both, along with a handful of runs contributed by the other batters ensured the side gets four full points.
